They use simple, quality ingredients and craft them into a lineup of tasty, gluten-free soups and overnight oats. The meals are perfect for breakfast, lunch, or a light dinner, and their ordering and subscription plans are super flexible. Plus, they were featured on Shark Tank, which made us curious.
We decided to try Proper Good and see if they reality lived up to the hype we had heard. Overall, we were really pleased with everything, from the taste of each heat & eat hearty soup and the consistency of the oats to their pricing, flexibility, and customer service.

Proper Good’s menu is filled with easy, shelf-stable meals you can grab and prepare in no time. All they require is a tiny bit of time in the microwave. Mainly, you’ll find breakfast and lunch options on the menu, although the soups are tasty and filling enough that you could easily enjoy them for a light, healthy dinner.
On average, there are about eight to ten options for overnight oats on the menu. The flavors range from classic and simple, like their Perfectly Plain Oats with chia, hemp, and flax seeds, along with a bit of coconut oil, to warm, comfort food flavors. A couple of our favorites are the Caramel Pecan Oats and Banana Bread Oats.
The other main portion of the menu is devoted to soups and chili. These soups are all made with Proper Good’s commitment to health and nutrition, so they’re packed with healthy ingredients, like whole grains and lots of nutritious veggies. On average, there are about 12-15 soups to choose from.
A few examples of the Proper Good soups we could choose from include their top-selling Broccoli Cheddar Soup, Meatball Soup, Chicken Noodle with nice thick egg noodles, Southwest Chili, and Spiced Pumpkin.
Overall, what you’ll find on the Proper Good menu are many familiar and comfortable flavors. These are the types of soups and oats you’d make when you want pure comfort food. We like that there are both thicker, creamier versions of their delicious soup and brothy options when you want something lighter.
Of course, Proper Good soup is made using grass-fed bone broth (except for those soups that fall into the plant-based category), so they’re all rich in vitamins, amino acids, and collagen that supports bone/joint health, as well as a healthy gut.
There are also a couple of just grains on the menu. You can order basmati rice or a blend of quinoa and brown rice prepared with avocado oil. These aren’t really meals on their own, but it’s easy enough to add your own veggies or even use the grains to make your Proper Good soup a bit more filling.
Overall, we really liked Proper Good’s menu. It’s not a super huge menu, but there’s definitely enough variety there that you don’t have to worry about eating the same thing twice a week – unless you want to! Proper Good also offers more variety of overnight oatmeal than we have seen among similar types of meal delivery services.

If you’re following a special diet or have a certain food you need to avoid, then you already know how challenging it can be to find premade meal options that perfectly align with your dietary lifestyle. Proper Good Meals offers several categories of meals for people with specific dietary preferences.
Proper Good offers meal solutions that are aligned to keto, plant-based (vegan), gluten-free, dairy-free, and low-sodium diets.
Those who turn to Proper Good soup to fuel their keto lifestyle will find selections like Red Pepper Meatball soup with beef and pork meatballs. This soup is hearty and comes in at just nine grams of net carbs and twelve grams of protein.
If you love the plant-based lifestyle, you can enjoy healthy meals from Proper Good, including oatmeal and their healthy soups. You can prepare any of their overnight oatmeal packets using your choices of plant milk, such as oat, rice, almond, or coconut milk. They’re all dairy free. You can also choose from plant-based soups, like Butternut Squash soup, Split Pea & Kale, or Southwest Chili.

Proper Good Soup is built on a foundation of offering delicious foods, including what they’re famous for – soups that feature high-quality ingredients for optimal taste and nutrition. They’re known for meals including clean ingredients delivered directly to their customers’ doors. Overall, Proper Good does a great job when it comes to quality.
Where Proper Good doesn’t knock it out of the park is in their non-offering of fully organic meals and their transparency regarding ingredient sourcing.
Currently, many of the ingredients that Proper Good Soup uses are not organic. This means that they also can’t say their products are certified organic, even if a few organic ingredients are thrown into the mix. Part of the reason they don’t focus on organic is the additional cost they would have to pass on to their customers.
Proper Good states on their website that switching to 100% organic products would increase the cost to their customers. Sometimes the best way to help people access wholesome, healthy food is by making it as affordable as possible without sacrificing ingredient quality. That’s what Proper Good tries to do. They avoid processed ingredients and added sugars, opting for clean ingredients instead. You might occasionally find something like organic chicken bone broth on the menu, but even without organics, the quality of their ingredients is consistent across the board.
Overall, we give Proper Good high marks for their quality. We hope that one day they’ll be able to provide more organic meals and transparency about where their ingredients are sourced without compromising the quality of their meals or affordable pricing structure.
Taste
Now, let’s talk about how all of this Proper Good food tastes. They’re known for their delicious soups, so let’s start there.
Proper Good soups are loaded up with lots of flavors. We’ve tried enough prepackaged soups to know that they often disappoint when it comes to vibrant flavors and consistency. Proper Good does a great job of ensuring their soups hit the mark in both categories.
The Broccoli Cheddar Soup is made with organic chicken bone broth, real cheddar cheese, and turmeric. It was creamy and flavorful, and the broccoli was in small enough pieces that you tasted it but didn’t have huge pieces of limp broccoli floating around. In our opinion, the texture was just perfect.
Broccoli Cheddar Soup
Lentil Dahl Curry
Chicken Noodle Soup
Pumpkin Pie Oatmeal
Some other soups that we tried include the Lentil Dahl Curry. This soup was thick, hearty, and offered so much flavor. The ingredients list gives credit to turmeric, garlic, cumin, mustard, and lemon juice. Lentils, potatoes, and coconut milk create the perfect texture and consistency.
The Chicken Noodle soup has a classic flavor enhanced by warming spices like turmeric and ginger. White chicken breast, carrots, onions, and other vegetables make this a delicious soup that’s balanced with healthy protein and carbs.
The Chicken & Mushroom soup was another favorite, with a silky consistency, chicken breast, cut mushrooms, and bone broth. This is one of those all-around good soups that most people would like, including those who aren’t crazy about more exotic flavors.
We also tried a few of the oatmeal selections and found them all to be really good. The Pumpkin Pie Oats would be perfect for a quick fall breakfast, but even the plain oats were actually really good.

You can enjoy Proper Good meals in a couple of different ways. You can order whatever items you want from their a la carte menu. This is one of the rare meal delivery services that doesn’t require a minimum order. If all you want is just one or two Proper Good soups, then you can purchase just that and not worry about anything else. Individual meals average $3-$8, depending on what type of meal it is.
You can also build your own box of meals, which comes with free shipping and discount. The minimum order for the build-your-own box is six healthy meals. There are also pre-packaged variety bundles that can be ordered with a single click.Â
Finally, you can subscribe and save even more, starting with your first order. You choose which meals you want to arrive in your box and how often you’d like to receive your delivery. When you subscribe, you save an additional 20%, plus you also get free priority shipping and VIP access to tasty new flavors, and Proper Good will donate a meal on your behalf.
Proper Good offers great value and affordability compared to other meal delivery services offering something similar. Plus, it’s pretty easy to find a coupon code for an even better deal.
Packaging & Recycling
When you order from Proper Good, your box of shelf-stable soups and oatmeal packs arrive in a good quality standard shipping box. There are other various packaging materials included, but the box and packaging are all made from easily recycled materials.
Proper Good soups come in a plastic pouch that’s microwave safe. This is the pouch you use to heat the soup. Unfortunately, the plastic pouch isn’t made from material that is accepted at most recycling centers or curbside recycling programs. Proper Good saw this problem and had a great idea for a solution.
With each shipment, they include the postage-paid envelope that you can use to mail the pouches back to them. It’s absolutely zero fuss or hassle on your part, and Proper Good takes care of the recycling for you!
